One of my friend owns and ice cream shop in the village where she prepare homemade ice cream and gelato. When I saw the pattern in my new Crochet Today! I knew I had to make it for her, it took me a day and I gave it to her. She loved it!

I was in Silves for an afternoon of sightseen, we went to visit a castle and in the main entrance there was a lady wo was crocheting, she was making beautiful doilies. She only spoke portuguese but from signes, I understood that she was making them from the top of her head. I did not bring my work, I wish I did just to tell her that I was a "crocheter" too... I think it was a sign.

On our way back to the car, DH took a different way and as we walk down the little street I saw it... it was right there ... the most beautiful little LYS. I was so excited.DH saw a bench down the street and told me he would wait for me there... he knows better.

So here is a sample... one ball of each different kind I bought. I already made a shoo-fly thinghy with the blue and yellow. the white is for a Christening dress or romper, the blue was for the baby boy of DH's good friend but we found something else later during the trip so I will find something else and the other colorful ones, I was thinking doing shoo-fly thinghy but I will have to figure out something because right now this one id too big and the beads are not heavy enough. So here it is!

I finally got my courage together and I wore my creation to work on Thursday.

I got a few very enthusiastic comments, some that congratulated me and one that I don't know what to think about it... something like "Yea... I thought it was something you made" What does that mean?

How to start the year right!

On the 1st, I stay home, DH was working 24hrs, watched movies all day and crocheted in the couch. I started a second hoodie over the Holidays because I gave it to my god daugther even if it was supposed to be for my friend's daugther. I finished all the pieces on the new year's day. I will need to get more buttons!

But... there is a but, shame on my I have not finished my "spring crochet" I guess that because it is for me, I keep on pushing it away... or it is just that I don't like to finish projects... that one is more on the target

Poncho for Eve

I finished my last Christmas project !

The pattern was in the Family Circle Crochet magazine. They recommended to use Cha-Cha and Disco and I found a substitute that was a third of the price. I added the pull-string for the hoodie because it was a little flare and flowers to make it pretty. I like what I see!

I can't wait to give it to her... Have I tell you? She loves pink

With the wedding preparations, I have been gone for quite a while. Even if I kept busy on the crochet side I did not post.

So here is an update,

I made a bunch of bookmarks for a get together I had with my girlfriends before the wedding... I think they liked it. I had party bags with sweets, hand cream, nail polish and hangover kit (a multi-vitamin and an Advil).

For the wedding, I made a basket with thread and starched it... It look great but when we put the flowers in it was a little wet and it lost all the stiffness it had giving a hard time to my flower girl. She could hardly hold it by the handle.... poor sweetie, not a success.

I also worked on a garter for a while but I could not figure out why it was not working and I kinda ran out of time...

Other than that, I made a hoodie for the daughter of a friend and I am working on a Spring Crochet for me. That is my projects for now....

I should start something for my goddaughter for Christmas, I am thinking about a poncho. There is a really nice one with a hood in the Family Circle Easy Crochet for kids. She would have it for a long time and I have a soft spot for hoodies.

I have some pictures of the Christening gown I made for my goddaugther... She did not look too happy at the first trial but she was just a doll at the Christening.

It was a wonderful for my ego, I received so many compliments for my work... hard and long work!

I finished the Christening gown and the hat... still need to do the booties but I am "crochet out" I have done so much to meet my deadline that I don't feel like doing it anymore...It will come back, I am not worried.

I am pretty busy since my return from vacation with the wedding prep and at work, one of my colleagues quitted, so I don't have anybody to dump my work on ;o)

I thought I should put a brief update... Pictures will come later.

During my vacation, I worked on my projects a little less that I was expecting, too much skiing and too tired after a full day on the runs to lift anything, but I was able to catch up on the flight there and back ( almost 12 hours each with lay-overs):

I finished the two hats for charity
I made two more strips for my ripple baby afghan... I talked to my girlfriend yesterday, she is at 2 cm... I need to hurry.

When I came back from my trip to Beautiful BC, I had my package from the Hat Swap. I got a really nice set for this spring. It is taupe and brown, it will go so well with my leather jacket. Thank you so much Kari!

I went for wedding dress, it is really difficult to make my choice, but I am starting to see what I could make to go with it... a shawl or a shrug... will see

Ok, ok, I know I have been busy lately and not able to add any new post to my blog… and I am worried I will lose the little readers I have. I have had a lot of travel for work and the wedding is taking a lot of time.

So here is a quick update,

Hat Swap: I sent my package and she received it. She says that she wears it everyday, I am so happy. There is no better compliment that when your work is used to my opinion. My pal sent my hat on the 14th, I hope I will get it before the end of the week. We are going away skiing in BC for a week… I can use a new hat. I will be working on the hats for charity next week.

Crochet-Along: I have been working on the baby cover but I am only on the second strip. I will bring it with me on vacation; I should be able to do a lot… maybe to finish it. That would be great! It has been a lot easier to work with the yarn; I kinda looked better at the work and found a good way to work it.

Meet ups: There is a crochet meet up today, I would like to go but last time I went, I ended up wasting my time since I was the only one there... or I would say that the other lady did not stay long enough so I could see her. With the trip and the wedding, I don't have much time to waist... Honestly, I felt so sad when nobody showed up that is more the rejection feeling than anything else that is holding me back... I will see how I feel at the end of the day.

I gave the poncho to my cousin’s daughter; it looks great on her. I forgot to take a picture… what’s new! I also give a pair of slippers to my cousin… she wants a pair in Phentex now… It is pretty difficult to find! Michael’s doesn’t have it and Walmart lacks in color choices.

I called for help at crochetville and got wonderful ideas for the wedding, I was overwhelmed by the response I got. I will begin with a basket for the flower girl and go from there.

This will keep me pretty busy so I will probably postponed my plan of learning to knit.
I am leaving on Friday, so I probably won’t be back until I return but keep on visiting, I is so nice to have comments.

Hat Swap and Crochet along

I finish my hat for the swap last night. Actually, I finished it a while back but I wanted to make something else to go with it and add a little of my hometown. So here it is I have my entire package ready. I will go to the post office at my lunch break to send it. I think it is pretty cute… Shout! I just realised, I forgot to take a picture of it! Ok so what I will do is get the whole package ready with the stamps and all so I can send it tomorrow without having to go back to the post office but I can bring it back home to take a picture… I need to develop the reflex to take picture of my work.

I started over my baby afghan last night witht the new pattern. I realised that it is the third time that I am doing that with the same yarn but I keep on starting with a new ball. So three beginnings and three broke into balls… Got to look at the good side, the yarn end is found!

Busy and expensive weekend

In my last post, I was whining about a digital camera. So on Friday, I did my homework, found a few models that I liked and discuss with Mike about buying. Saturday, we got it! I am so excited, I am still working on learning how it works but I should have some pictures soon.

I was taking a picture of my baby ripple afghan when I realized that I must have forgot a few stiches because it is not straight on one side. I will have to start all over but with the tip that Andrea gave me, I am looking forward to try it... But I am also thinking of changing my pattern to this one...

I finished the hat for the swap but I want to add something with it. I can't just send that! I will be working on that too... but tonight I have Tai-Chi so not too much time for crochet

Last night's work

I started my baby cover for the ripple along (crochetville), my first . Unfortunately, the yarn is driving me crazy, it is Bernat LULU in Snowball and Busy blues. I can't see my stitches... I have to "feel" it. The first row is the worst the following ones are easier... a new skill to acquire needs patience; crochet with closed eyes!?! I will have to do it a few times since I have to work 6 to 8 strips.

It will be so pretty is worth going crazy.

Another thing that is driving me crazy is that I don't have a digital camera. I wish I could share more of my work include it in my blog and in crochetville . I am very tempted to buy one but they are pretty expensive and which one to pick... I will have to start shopping inquiries on Digital cameras.

I finish another Hat for Mike last night, it is a success more than the last one which was too big. He likes it, the fit, the feel and the look . I am so happy that he is wearing something I made... I wish I could show you the results...

I am a godmother

My sister called last night, she had something special she wanted to ask me. She wants me as Jasmine's godmother... as a second godmother, she will have 2 godmothers and no godfather; the big sisters of both parents. Now then I am thinking about it maybe I should have proposed that they take my brother so Jasmine gets a godmother and a godfather but she would not have been spoiled the same way since he is always broke... but that might have made him more dependable though... anyway, I said yes so it is too late now.

I will ask my sister if she would like me to make a Baptism gown, maybe this Christening Dress, I don't know if she is into that.

Need for approval

My sister had her baby girl on December 23, she is a cutie, I saw her yesterday. I gave her the dress and the baby cover, booties and hat kit. I was feeling weird about it, I talked to my Dad about my present over Christmas, before I see my sister and the way he told me "you made some crafts" I felt like it was not an adequate present to give to my sister. I have been given handmade presents (crocheted baby blankets mainly) to my friends who had babies and they all were very happy about it but I felt from my dad's comment that I should have been giving something else. I know that I am the one who is letting him make me feel like that but I guess I am still the little girl who is looking to get Daddy's approval. Anyway I give it to my sister and it is not for her, it is for Jasmine... did I say she is so cute and only a week old.

Over the holidays, while I was at my Dad, I looked everywhere to find my mom's crochets and knitting needles but without success. She passed four years ago and since I am thinking about learning to knit I thought I could use hers. I have no clue where they could be but I will still give another look next time I go.

After a few days at my Dad's, we went to le Massif, mountain by the sea, for a couple days of downhill skiing. It was wonderful. It is impressive, when you ski you feel like you will end up in the River. We stayed in a little Inn and our meals were included. It was delicious. It is owned by a young couple and the man is turning wood and making all kinds of beautiful things. He is making pens... and pens can look a bit like crochet... Do you see me coming? I asked him if he would try to make a few crochet for me... and he accepted! I asked for three crochets. He will be working on it and I should have them in a few weeks. I can't wait! Since I have seen the one of turn of the century I have been dying to get some but these ones will be design specially for me!

I have not written in a while but with the holidays and the preparations and a few last minute gifts, I did not have a minute to write.

So here I am, I give the three ponchos to Mike's sister and nieces. Looks like they liked them but I will have to see if they wear it, that is the real compliment.

I did a pair of slippers for my cousin and I am still working on a cute sparkly poncho for her daughter, I have not seen them yet so I will have time to finish it. Mike asked for a winter hat... He has a bigger head so had a hard time to find one that fits but I guess I over estimated the size since now the hat looks too big... I will try to shrink it in the washer... I am a little worried but I will give it a try.

I finished my hooded poncho. I am so proud! It looks great!

It was not an easy job but I made the conversion and I looks everything like I wanted to. I hope that she will like it.

I also had to figure out a stitch to make the loop on the opposite side. For the hood I could not do rounds and make loops on every row with the loop stitch I had work with previously. I was in the car and did not have my stitches book with me so I try a few thing and find a way to make the loop on the opposite side of the fabric, I don't even know if it exists... I guess it does but not in my book. I checked when I got home.

I wish I had a digital camera. I went shopping for a cellular phone this weekend, I might get the one that takes pictures just for my crochet projects... I am going back on Monday... will see.

Ottawa crochet Meet up

There was no crowd at the Ottawa crochet meet up this month; there was freezing rain warnings. I just could not cancel my attendance, I was waiting for that for a month and I was pretty excited about meeting other "hookers"... I did not regret waiting a little after work because I was not the only one that braved the weather to go.

I met N. , she is a advanced knitter and a beginner crocheter. It was nice to talk about projects, I don't have anybody in my entourage that understand my passion for crocheting... they all think it is for old ladies... but they are all pretty happy when they get a present though! It was a lovely evening, my favorite coffee, crochet and good company.

The hooded poncho is moving along nicely… I am a little worried that I won’t have enough yarn for the hood. I went back to the store but they don’t have the same color lot I have… I took everything they had on my first purchase. I am hoping they will get a new shipment next week. I will keep my fingers crossed... even if it might make it difficult to crochet… with my fingers crossed ;o)

Never too late

I spend most of the afternoon yesterday going over the hooded poncho pattern. I could see that my work started twisting and I thought that I should really spend sometime and convert the whole pattern before I move any further. So I checked the number of stitch and rows, calculated the length and width… I spend a lot of time on it but it is all done.

I seriously thought about undoing everything and starting from scratch… I even started all the beginning chains and a bit of the first row… But then I just could not rip all the work I have done this week. So I rip maybe a third of the work I have done so far and I am back at it… Anyway I will have to make another one to try the pattern from the beginning but I want this one to be ready for Christmas I must hurry.

I worked on the hooded poncho pattern last night after Tai-Chi, I talked to two ladies who are knitter/crocheter at the class and from their expressions, they think I am giving myself a lot of troubles to go that way.

Actually Mike went to bed and I kept working at it ... I feel like I am an addict when that happened; Staying up late after my usual bedtime because I want to work on a crochet project. I will get over it.

So I practice my loop stitch, I really liked it once I got my fingers to move the right way!!
I also made sample swatches with different hooks (7.00mm and 9.00mm). I decided to go with the 9.00mm because of the thickness. The yarn looks really nice, Bernat SOLO in Tomato. I started my first rows with the converted number of chains followed by a row of alternating sc and loop stitches... It got way too long! So frog, frog, frog.

I went to bed late and have nothing to show today... but I think I figured out how many chains(171) I will need and I won't slip stitch the chain before I have my first row of sc-loop done because even if I did my best not to twist the chain row... I did. It should be easier after the first row.

All things considered, I am pretty excited about his project. The yarn looks really nice, Bernat SOLO in Tomato

Even if I don't feel like... I can't refuse a good challenge. I found the perfect hooded poncho but... because there had to be a but, it is a knitting pattern.

So I will work at converting it in crochet. I found a few tips on the net and I asked for some help from crochetville members. I would like to begin tonight but I have TaiChi so I might not have time... Maybe tomorrow at lunch.

I was thinking that if it turns really nice, I could offer the pattern to Patons and be published !!! I am not there yet

I am pretty happy about what I was able to do this weekend... Finishing my two black ponchos. It feels so good to have a couple 100% in my progress bar, I think I will kept them for a couple days like that.
I live in Canada so no Thanksgiving for me last weekend and time to work on projects and on my blog. Our Tanksgiving was a month ago.

I need to find a pattern and some yarn for another Christmas present project. My first idea was to make a shrug but I talked to the "future owner" this weekend and it seems like she would like a poncho with a hood. If I find one I will make it but yesterday I look into the wonderful poncho pattern list on Faery Craft and did not find one. I will try for another couple days to find one but I have to begin it soon. I could always make up one, but I am not in the mood for a trial-error method.

I know, I said before that I would not work with black anymore but here I am again!

It's just that everybody seems to like black and it goes with everything... I don't need excuses but once again I have a half done #!!@!! BLACK poncho, I am sick of it and I am dying to finish it... I guess I will need to make another pink poncho to set things right and see "la vie en rose" again.

I guess it is not helping my mood that yesterday I picked up my engagement ring after having it resized, first I found it too small... they make it oval so it is squishing my finger and when I got out of the store I realised that the white gold is not so white anymore... It has a golden tint in it. I did not see it because of the lights they have in the store, the diamond looked stunning so I did not notice the gold color. Anyway, I had to give it back this morning and will have to wait another week or so before I can wear it ... forever, I know.

I found a neat pattern at hook me up today for a Shavasana bag, I have a nice orangy, yellowy... very sunny yarn I will use to do it, it matches my yoga mat. That should help with my moods!

Pink Poncho is a success

I made the pink poncho for my girl friend, she lives in a city about 3.5 hours from me. I had to go for work so I thought about giving her her Christmas present right away. She loved it! I also think that it is lovely. She wore it this weekend and send me an e-mail about it this morning... that sure put sunshine in my day

It is a mix of a couple pattern I found on the internet, asymmetrical poncho stitch from Bella online with a "two rectangles pattern". I will have to ask her for a picture.

News as extreme as they come

I made the black poncho for Nat, my brother's girlfriend. I learn this weekend that they broke up. By the sound of it, it is permanent. I don't know if I should send her the poncho or not. I was supposed to send her a picture of the one I made because I found it too big, I wanted her opinion and I was planning … more than planning since I already bought the yarn, on making another one, smaller. My brother told me that anyway she could not wait and bought herself one a couple weeks ago but if I want to give it to her, he could take care of the “ delivery”.

I could give the poncho I already made to Mike’s sister, I thought about it because she is tall and it would suit her and the second one I will do to his niece or even to my cousin even if I planned on making slippers for her… I don’t know. I don’t want Nat to think that I am not giving her the poncho because I have some kind of negative feeling about the break up but I don’t feel like making a new one for her…

On another note, we got engaged this weekend. Mike asked me to marry him on Saturday. Pretty busy weekend, announcing the news and talking about what we want. We are looking to get married in September 2005. I am thinking about making the wedding gown cover from Needful yarn… will see!

To crochet or not to crochet... That is the question

Yesterday, I had to go to the next town (2 hours drive one-way) for a meeting ... with my boss. He was the one who was driving. So 4 hours in the car... really nice opportunity to work on some crochet projects but there is a but:
Here is the situation, I have been working in this company for a year... by the way, I moved to this town for Love, yes with capital L and had to find a new job. I work in a very professional consulting company and I have to admit that I was worried about how it would be perceived by my boss ...

I never been shy about it. I have been crocheting in doctor's offices, in car repair shops, in malls, in driveways, at the hairdresser, waiting in line to get gas for my car, chatting with friends and family... I am out there and spreading the word... but would it change my boss' opinion on me, he is young, would he understand my passion for this craft... that is what I was worried about.

On the way to the meeting we talked for most of the ride so I didn't get anything out... On the way back, I did some business related work and then after an hour... I got my crochet out. It was alright, he talked about a friend of his that is an avid knitter and made some jokes only a non-initiated could do but it was all right....

That is funny because I finally got out of the closet with my boss when he is the one who is gay!

I should learn to do buttons and add one on my blog as a "girl guide badge" ... I crocheted in front of my boss or My boss knows... this is quite and achievement for me, I am telling you.

I worked on the black poncho this weekend and attached the two pieces together. I can't believe it! It is way too big. I should have had figured it out before; if I make it long from the shoulder to the wrist, the point will en up between the knees. I don't think that it is what Nat had in mind but there is no way I am going to un do it. It is just too emotional, I work so hard and I was sick of it but I kept at it. I am not the perseverant type but this one I stick to it... I guess that is what I had to learn from this experience. I should have pictures soon.

I am officially a Crochet Addict!

My work requests some traveling and yesterday I had to go to another town (2.5 hrs drive) to meet with some clients. I left home in the morning and was coming back today. I realised when I was about 1hr from the house that I had forgotten my "crochet bag" where I keep a project in progress. I was so disappointed and I could not face a day without crocheting. So after my first meeting, I had a bit of a wait before the next one so I went to a store and bought some yarn and a hook. Nothing fancy, just cotton yarn to do a couple dishcloths. So here it is, I am a crochet addict and I have no intention to quit anytime soon!

And since that is what I am and that I am proud of it, I have to tell the world! I have been crocheting in public regularly but the new thing is my blog so I joined a blog ring: Crochet blogs. I also found a Crochet Meet Up group in my region; I am pretty excited about that. The next meeting is in December and I am very much looking forward to it. I also met two fellow crocheters at my Tai-Chi class; I don’t know where this will lead to only future will tell…

Yesterday I thought that I would be able to finish the black poncho. On my way home I started thinking about it, the two parts might not be long enough to make a wide neck line... And I was right. So back at it too adjust the length. It has been so difficult to adjust the size of this poncho.

For the love of yarn! (I saw that somewhereelse and I just thouht i would find a day to use it) I don't know what I am doing wrong but I cannot make it work in my blog... . All I get is a white rectangle. I found the info at http://annamation.ca/annaknits/freeblogstuff.php.

Hopefully "Anna" can help me, I sent her an e-mail. She has not updated her blog for over a year so I am not expecting too much results. I am getting a little frustrated. I asked yarngirl for her input since she has them in her blog ... I think it is her because that is not what the address is saying.

I worked on the "black" poncho last night and the two pieces are ready, I will be able to finish it tonight and move on. Youppi!

Last week I had the poncho drag, my mood was definitely low and I think I found out why. This weekend, I could not stand that poncho anymore, I am less than a ball away from finishing it (if I don’t decide to undo-redo the first side) but anyway I started a new project and suddenly my mood swung up and I felt so much better. The poncho I was making is black… I think the color just killed my spirit seeing black all the time, the new one is pink, “La vie en rose” just makes me feel better. Did you ever had this happened to you?

I will be careful for now on and will try to alternate with another project when I work with black… It made such a big difference.
I had a get together last Friday and I thought I could make some “crochet friends”. I thought it would be more of a sitting down kind of party but everybody was pretty much standing… a little difficult to crochet. I had to leave after an hours and half only… I was expecting some friends for the weekend and had to be there to welcome them. So really no great result on the crochet side but it was nice to chat with those women.

Tonight I am going to Ann's for a girl's get together. I am bringing my crochet projects and will try to get a few into it so we can have "knit and b*tch"... I mean crochet but it sounds better with knit. I know that Erin would be interested to start with so that will help.

I have never been big on working on more than one project at the time other than having a dishcloth waiting to be finish while I make something more interesting but today I feel like it. I have been working on Nat's poncho for a while and I am getting bored with it. I am thinking about starting Michelle's.

It might just be because I think I will have to undo-redo one of the side and I have been putting some time into it, I really don't feel like starting over... I guess I will have to finish e second one before I cant tell. The second looks perfect... better anyway, the first one I had to add an extension because once I was far along enough it was not the right length. For the second one, I almost spend a whole day doing and undoing it to make sure it was the right length... and it is.

Yesterday I called a friend from my old job and they started a "knitting/crocheting club". About ten women are getting together at lunch to "knit and b*tch". What a great idea! I love it. Unfortunately I would not be able to do that here as most of people take only 1/2 hour lunch, not much time to do anything and it is not like we have a room where we could do it, everything is always booked solid. I will talk to a few girls about it anyway, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Patterns available for crocheters... frustration

Is it only me but I find that there are all those really nice patterns for knitters but I can't seem to find nice one for crochet. Most of the projects are tacky and out of style when you are looking for women clothes. I can't find nice twin set or tops.

I have tried to knit but I can't get a handle on it. I feel trap with the two needles... a bit claustrophobic. On top of that, it is sooo slooow to get anything done, feels like forever to see some fabric. Maybe I should take a class but at the same time I feel like I am cheating on my first love; crochet.

I saw all those blogs and groups that are crocheting and I want to join in!

I started crocheting late, I was 28 years old. The mother of my boyfriend at the time was an avid crocheter and I got the bug.

I go through waves of inspirations and production than slow down for a few months so if it seams like I am not writing so much, don't worry, I will be back.

I have been working on a few baby things in the past months, my sister is pregnant so I have to do my aunty's duty. A little girl is expected at the beginning of December, first in the family, she will make a hit.

Now I am working on a poncho. Yes, the most popular item on the net, I am pretty sure! It is for Nat, my brother's girlfriend.... Christmas present.

I have a couple other projects on the backburner;

Another poncho for Michelle this time, I found the prefect pink yarn this weekend.
Baby cover, Boyish colors, just in case. I have a few pregnant girlfriends and if I get less productive I should be ready.
A lacy curtain for the bathroom sink

I don't have a digital camera but I will find a way to get my creations on the blog
